African American Heritage Festival
The BTWHSPVA annual African American Heritage Festival coincides with Black History Month. This year's festival was "THE BEAT!" The production, "Rhyme Deferred," also featured interludes from all conservatories. It was held in the Montgomery Arts Theatre on Thursday and Friday, February 22-23, with a student preview on Wednesday, February 21.
Student Artwork Contest Winner: The winner of the festival artwork is Booker T. student Kristen Below! Kristen is a Junior in the Dance Conservatory. She is excited to debut her love for digital design through the student artwork contest for the African American Heritage Festival. Her festival design entitled "Beatin' Down to the Roots" was inspired by her passion as a young African American artist who has a strong interest in West African dance and the percussion instruments used to produce the music. She is very grateful for the opportunity to showcase her artistry through her love for the deeply rooted West African culture. She would like to share gratitude for Michelle N. Gibson a.k.a Mz. G who introduced Kristen to West African dance and culture as a freshman in the beginning rep dance class. Kristen is very thankful for this opportunity given by the PTSA, and the nonstop support of her friends and family. |
Thank you to the Class of 2026 for supporting the production! All proceeds from the concessions will support the sophomore class to build up its class funds, which will be used to create a one-of-a-kind senior year experience.
