| Kathy Ruff’s journey to Booker T. is a vibrant story of heart, service, and unwavering dedication. A proud Chicago native and 1998 graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Kathy followed her instincts—and her heart—when she and her husband Jon, a true East Dallas local, chose to raise their family in the Mockingbird / J.L. Long / Woodrow feeder pattern. Since 2011, they’ve called this dynamic community home, raising two daughters: Quinn, now in college, and Bonner, a senior in the Dance Conservatory at Booker T. Kathy has been an East Dallas resident for over 22 years and a passionate advocate for public education throughout. |
|---|
Her leadership across multiple campuses is nothing short of extraordinary. She has served on the executive boards of Mockingbird Elementary, J.L. Long Middle School, and Woodrow Wilson High School, including terms as PTA President at Mockingbird (2018) and Woodrow (2023). She’s also been a proud Texas PTA member for 14 years and a Booker T. PTSA member for the past three. One of Kathy’s most transformative contributions was introducing the Membership Toolkit (MTK) web platform to the Woodrow feeder pattern. From 2019 to 2022, she led web and communications efforts at J.L. Long, launching and managing MTK platforms for both J.L. Long and Woodrow—streamlining communication and access for thousands of families. Now serving as PTSA Senior Class Chair at Booker T., Kathy brings her signature warmth, creativity, and organizational magic to every senior milestone. From Prom and the Senior Party to the Senior-Faculty Volleyball Game, Welcome Week, and countless surprise moments, she ensures that every experience is joyful, meaningful, and unforgettable. She stepped into this role with enthusiasm and heart, continuing her three years of service with the Dance Guild and deepening her connection to the Booker T. community. A retired event planner, Kathy pours her talents into every detail. Whether she’s crafting recital props at Bonner’s dance studio (Kitty Carter’s Dance Factory), baking banana bread, playing Mah Jongg, or assembling charcuterie boards, she brings joy and intention to everything she touches. She’s also an active member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of North Texas and a former Chair of their Annual Night of Champions Dinner. Kathy’s favorite Booker T. event is STRUT, a celebration of fashion, creativity, and self-expression. She loves how it opens doors for students across all conservatories to showcase their style and talent. (And yes, Kathy dabbles in a strut of her own...she proudly holds the "title" of owning Dallas’s largest collection of inflatable costumes...a legacy built one oversized Kool-Aid Man, Jabba the Hutt, and dancing hot dog at a time. If there’s a blow-up outfit involved, chances are Kathy’s already worn it, stored it, and has a backup... just in case. 😆) |
Kathy Ruff brings warmth, vision, and a steady hand to her role as PTSA Senior Class Chair, ensuring that every senior moment is not only well-organized but deeply meaningful. Her leadership goes far beyond logistics...it’s rooted in care, creativity, and a genuine love for the Booker T. community. Whether she’s planning Prom, coordinating senior surprises, or quietly handling the behind-the-scenes details that make events shine, Kathy leads with heart and intention. Her years of service across the Woodrow feeder pattern and at Booker T. have made her a trusted voice and a grounding presence. She understands that celebration and structure can coexist—and she brings both with grace. And let’s be honest, Kathy is hilariously fun. From her legendary collection of inflatable costumes to her ability to turn any planning meeting into a laugh-filled brainstorm, she brings joy and levity, and lights up every room she enters. Her sense of humor is just as impactful as her organizational skills, reminding us that hard work can be a party, too! Kathy’s contributions may not always be front and center, but their impact is unmistakable. Her dedication keeps us moving forward, her creativity brings joy to every milestone, and her compassion reminds us why we show up for one another. We’re incredibly lucky to have her guiding the Class of 2026, and even luckier to have her as part of our Booker T. family. |
