MESSAGE FROM 2023-24 PTSA PRESIDENT PATRICIA MOJICA

Greetings, Booker T. family!

Thank you to all who attended the March PTSA meeting on Tuesday. We were excited to welcome BTW'sMock Trial Team (MTT). Captain Isabel Gameros and team member Maxine Louthan thanked the PTSA for awarding the team a student activity grant, which allowed them to have snacks and lunch during the state competition held over Spring Break. They proudly announced that the MTT won the 2024 State Championship and earned a bid to represent the State of Texas in the National High School Mock Trial Championship in Wilmington, Delaware, this May. Congratulations, Pegasi and good luck at Nationals!

A special thank you to the MTT's lawyer advisors Abby Mathews and Bill Gameros, Booker T.'s longtime advisor and enrichment teacher Satchel Victory, and new faculty advisor Maddie Fulton for all that you do to teach and encourage our scholar artists in the MTT. Auditions to join the 2024-25 MTT will be announced soon. Stay tuned!

The 2023-24 team included returning students Eryn Anum (Theatre 2025), Audrey Buehler (Theatre 2025), Molly Chakery (Theatre 2024), Isabel Gameros (Theatre 2024), Olivia Lang (Theatre 2025), Maxine Louthan (Theatre 2025), and Erin Mansour (Theatre 2025). First-time team members include Miranda Churchhill (Theatre 2025), Ellie Oddo (Visual 2026), Abigail Smith (Theatre 2027), and courtroom artist Lola Saldana (Visual 2025).

Also, at the meeting, we learned about the BTW Advisory Board's initiative to organize an alumni association. Alumni Relations Coordinator Avery-Jai Andrews works to keep alums connected to the school. She encourages all alums and rising alumni to subscribe to the alumni newsletter. Current Seniors will receive a letter in welcoming them into the alumni community. Read more about it in the Senior news article below.

Just a reminder: it's election season for the PTSA! A big THANK YOU to the following members of the PTSA Nominating Committee who have finalized the 2024-25 PTSA Executive Board Slate: Adam Mora, Committee Chair, and committee members Christina Hurd, Leah Mora, Larry Thompson, and Jamal Wilson.I also want to thank our Parliamentarian, Jodi Carlton, for guiding and overseeing this vital process. Please see the PTSA Elections article below to review the slate and join us at the April 9 meeting to vote.

Lastly, I'd like to invite you to stay alert to the PTSA social media channels. VERY, VERY, VERY soon, Principal Williams will announce the next All School Musical!

PTSA SPONSORED STUDENT ACTIVITIES

The Asian Student Union is hosting the second annual Holi celebration in the Green Room from 4-4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 25! All students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend and participate in the festivities!

  • What to wear: for maximum results with the chalk powder wear white or light-colored clothing.
  • Student Release from class: on Monday, an announcement will be made at 4 p.m. to release students who want to participate or watch the festivities in the Green Room (if class time permits). ASU Co-President, Diyaa Dossani, will introduce the event promptly at 4:05 p.m.
  • Where to watch: those who want to watch may stand on the upper level of the green room, just outside the senior cafeteria.
  • Reminder: All students who participate must bring their backpacks and belongings to the Green Room, as they will not be allowed back into the building. This is to prevent the chalk powder from being tracked into the school.
  • Please note: The chalk powder should be washed out of clothing to avoid stains.

For more about the history of Holi, what it represents, and what the celebration looks like read the explainer by the National Geographic.

"A HUGE thank you to PTSA for helping us acquire the bulk of the chalk powder! Definitely could not have done this without them this year!" Anna Gay, Academic Conservatory Director and Faculty Sponsor of the Asian Student Union
