| The Final Countdown to Spring Break Thank you to all who joined us on March 5th for the Library Salon Series, featuring alum Josh Hickman in conversation with school psychologist Jennifer Toombs. This reflective and thoughtful discussion provided insight into the journey many families navigate when supporting a loved one diagnosed with dementia. Josh Hickman's vulnerability and honesty touched all in attendance and we are grateful for the opportunity to support this meaningful program. Active slating is in full swing so if you’re interested in serving in a PTSA leadership role or Committee Chair role next year, we’d love to hear from you. This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and open positions are delineated below. Don't be shy, join in on the leadership team! The Arts & Culture event is coming up this Thursday during the extended flex schedule. Volunteer opportunities are still available, and we need your help to make the event a smooth success. We also have so many scholar artists to celebrate this week. Congratulations to all of our outstanding students on their achievements. See the details below! We’re counting down the days as we head into a well‑deserved Spring Break. This will be our final newsletter until March 23, as the PTSA is taking a little break too. Enjoy the week ahead and we’ll see you on the other side of the sunshine and rest! With gratitude, Leah |

We were grateful to welcome you into the BTWHSPVA Library for such a meaningful and heartfelt conversation. Josh’s discussion of his book, Forgetting: The Trials & Triumphs of Caregiving for a Difficult Parent with Dementia offered an honest and powerful look into the emotional and universal challenges of caregiving, and we hope the evening resonated with you as deeply as it did with our community. We are also incredibly grateful to our school psychologist, Jennifer Toombs, for moderating the conversation with such care and insight. Her guidance helped create a thoughtful and supportive space for everyone in attendance. A very special thank‑you goes to our PTSA volunteers, whose time, energy, and behind‑the‑scenes coordination made this event shine. Your support ensured a smooth and welcoming experience for all, and we truly appreciate your dedication to our school community. |
Josh graciously greeted guests and offered signings after the discussion. |

BURSTING INTO COLOR | HOLI AT BOOKER T. |
On March 4, our campus came alive with color as students and staff joined together to celebrate Holi, the vibrant festival of colors that marks the arrival of spring. The celebration honored the holiday’s spirit of joy, renewal, and community, offering students a chance to learn about and participate in a cherished cultural tradition. It was a beautiful afternoon filled with color throwing, music, laughter, and the shared experience of welcoming a new season together. |
We are grateful to everyone who helped bring this celebration to life and to our students for embracing the day with such enthusiasm and respect. Holi at Booker T. was a joyful reminder of the richness that cultural traditions bring to our school community. |
A VISIT FROM MISTY COPELAND ENERGIZES OUR DANCE CONSERVATORY |
Last Friday February 27th, our campus had the extraordinary honor of welcoming Misty Copeland, one of the most influential figures in modern ballet. During her visit, Copeland sat down for an insightful conversation with Krys Boyd of KERA, offering students a rare look into her artistic journey, the discipline that shaped her career, and the creative resilience required to rise to the top of her field. Copeland’s presence carries profound meaning in the dance world. In 2015, she became the first Black woman to be promoted to principal dancer in the 75‑year history of American Ballet Theatre. Her groundbreaking achievement has inspired dancers across the globe, especially young dancers of color who have not always seen themselves represented on major ballet stages. Through her artistry, advocacy, and visibility, Copeland has expanded the possibilities of who belongs in ballet and what the future of the art form can be. Moments like this remind us how powerful it is for students to learn directly from artists who are actively shaping their disciplines. Copeland’s visit left a lasting impression on our dancers and the broader Booker T. community. |
This special opportunity was made possible through the generous partnership of our neighbors at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, whose ongoing collaboration continues to enrich our students’ artistic experiences. We are deeply grateful for their support in bringing such an inspiring guest to our campus. |

| A Message From Dallas ISD We are proud to share exciting news about our partnership with Dallas County Promise. Dallas County Promise is a community-wide movement currently designed to help 12th-grade students prepare for success after high school by offering information and resources for both college and career planning. By completing the Promise Path Form in 12th grade, students take the first step toward tuition assistance at participating colleges, financial aid guidance, and help navigating the college enrollment process. These supports have already opened doors for many of our graduates. Starting today, the Dallas County Promise Path Form will now include 9th–11th grade students. This path form aims to begin the conversation about post-secondary options earlier, so that every student feels confident that they can achieve any career they wish. In addition, this expansion means that students can begin thinking earlier about their future, increasing their college readiness through high school programs, and receiving ongoing information to help them stay on track. By filling out the Promise Path Form before senior year, students can signal their interest, explore career and college opportunities, and begin building a pathway that will carry them through graduation and beyond. What you can do now: Families can expect that once a student completes the Promise Path Form, they will receive communication and resources that match where they are in high school. For younger students, this will include opportunities to learn more about college and career options and prepare step by step. For seniors, it will continue to include direct information about financial aid, scholarships, and enrollment. With the help of Dallas County Promise, we're working to ensure every student feels confident that they can achieve any career they wish to pursue, and we are grateful to our families who support us in this journey. |

FROM BOOKER T. TO INDIE ROCK | MAX POSCENTE’S NEW ALBUM SHINES |
Booker T. alum Max Poscente is back in the spotlight with the release of The Lighthouse, The Storm, the debut full‑length album from his indie‑rock project About You. Recorded at Dallas’ own Modern Electric Sound Recorders, the album marks a major milestone for Poscente, whose musical roots trace directly to his days at BTWHSPVA. As a student, he helped shape the local music scene through The Azalea Project, a band formed with fellow Booker T. musicians that quickly gained citywide attention. His artistic journey from Booker T. to Berklee to Los Angeles comes full circle in this new release. Read the full story in the Dallas Observer for a deeper look at Poscente’s journey and the making of the album. |
