| Smashing Success: Thank you for Celebrating With Us! The Sounds and Voices Fall Festival was a spectacular showcase of artistry, culture, and community spirit. The BTWHSPVA campus was alive with energy as guests enjoyed an evening filled with dazzling performances, vibrant cultural expressions, and joyful connection—all brought to life by the extraordinary talent of our students and faculty. It was truly heartwarming to see our community come together to celebrate, engage, and support the school in such a meaningful way. A special shout-out to the Class of 2027, who meticulously planned a dynamic lineup of events designed to entertain, inspire, and unite. From stunning artistic showcases and interactive activities to delicious food, drinks, and food trucks, they created an experience that had something for everyone—and attendees embraced every moment. The Decorated Pumpkin Contest was a highlight, featuring wildly creative designs that celebrated originality and school spirit. Meanwhile, the silent auction offered over $7,000 worth of incredible items, with a wide variety of offerings to suit every taste. It was not only a fun and festive part of the evening, but also a meaningful way to support our programs. Looking ahead, we’re excited for the upcoming Halloween Faculty Appreciation Breakfast. Help us show love to our amazing faculty and staff by contributing through the Amazon Event Wish List. We’ll be serving a delicious breakfast, handing out candy bags, and awarding gift card prizes for the best costumes. And don’t forget—Reflections submissions are open through November 6, 2025. Encourage your student to explore this year’s theme, “I Belong,” and express their creativity through visual art, writing, music, dance, and more. Thank you to everyone who helped make the Sounds and Voices Festival a resounding success. Your support and enthusiasm continue to make BTWHSPVA a place where creativity thrives. With gratitude, Leah |

| Maggie Lopez is a proud Mexicana, born in Mexico City and raised between Los Angeles and Dallas. Her formative years in both cities helped shape a rich and multifaceted identity. For Maggie, discovering the arts through her children has been one of the most rewarding aspects of parenthood. She’s come to see art not only as a form of personal expression, but also as a powerful tool for connection, healing, and understanding. It allows us to communicate complex emotions, preserve culture, and foster empathy across differences. For Maggie and her family, art isn’t just something to admire—it’s a way of life. Maggie is a devoted wife and mother of four: Antonio (26), Emmanuel (8), Valentina (7), and Eleyna Ramirez, a current junior in the Dance Conservatory at Booker T. |

Though she doesn’t have a formal background in the arts, her journey alongside Eleyna has transformed her into a passionate advocate for arts education. After the passing of her father—a man known for his joyful spirit and love of dance—Maggie has found comfort and inspiration in Eleyna’s movement and dedication to her craft. One quote that resonates deeply with Maggie comes from Albert Einstein: “We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams—we are dancers, we create dreams.” Through Eleyna’s artistry, Maggie sees the healing and transformative power of dance in action. Fun Fact: Maggie was a Varsity Cross Country runner as a freshman in high school and nearly qualified for state. Her personal goal is to run a marathon—maybe when Eleyna heads off to college. Maggie especially values the Senior Showcase, which gives students a platform to present their talents and accomplishments to peers, educators, families, and even college representatives. She believes it’s a vital opportunity for students to gain confidence, build connections, and take meaningful steps toward their future. She’s also a strong supporter of the Angel Tree program, a PTSA-led initiative that provides holiday gifts and support to families in need. Maggie sees it as a powerful reminder to appreciate what we have and to use our blessings to uplift others. Programs like Angel Tree foster compassion, gratitude, and the spirit of giving—proving that even small acts of kindness can bring joy and hope. Professionally, Maggie serves on the Critical Care Team in the Emergency Department at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, a Level I pediatric trauma center. She works closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide high-acuity care to critically ill and injured children. Her role has sharpened her clinical judgment, strengthened her teamwork, and deepened her commitment to exceptional pediatric care. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in clinical social work. Maggie’s involvement with PTSA began over 20 years ago with her oldest son and has grown into a deep commitment to her school communities. For her, it’s not just about helping—it’s about showing up. Her children see that she’s present, engaged, and invested in their educational journey. That visibility strengthens their bond and sets a powerful example. Maggie also serves on the boards of Solar Boys and Biomedical Prep, continuing her advocacy across multiple campuses. In her rare free time, Maggie enjoys taking walks with her mother. Since her mother has been on her own, these walks have become a cherished routine—sometimes filled with conversation, sometimes quiet, but always meaningful. Even in the busiest seasons of life, Maggie makes space for these moments, knowing how much they matter. |
Maggie Lopez has poured her heart into every aspect of her role as PTSA 2nd VP of Fundraising this year. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication have not only fueled our fundraising efforts—they’ve uplifted the entire Booker T. community. Maggie doesn’t just organize events or rally support; she leads with empathy, intention, and a deep belief in the power of the arts to transform lives. Her approach is rooted in care—care for the students, for the families, and for the educators who shape our school every day. Whether she’s coordinating a campaign, writing a heartfelt message, or simply showing up with a smile, Maggie brings a sense of purpose and connection to everything she touches. Her presence reminds us that fundraising isn’t just about dollars—it’s about opportunity, equity, and creating space for our scholar artists to thrive. Let’s take a moment to celebrate Maggie’s incredible heart and leadership. Her passion is contagious, her vision is inspiring, and her commitment continues to move us forward. We are deeply grateful for the love, light, and brilliance she brings to our community. |
