MESSAGE FROM 2024-25 PTSA PRESIDENT PATRICIA MOJICA

Greetings, Booker T. family!

Thank you to all who joined us for the first PTSA meeting of the year! We had a lot of information to share, and your attendance to stay engaged and vote on important business items is greatly needed and much appreciated.

It's time to giveaway some prizes! As promised in the meeting, we are announcing the winners of the following prizes in this newsletter.

The Pegasus Family Four Pack, including 4 tickets to ON YOUR FEET! and conservatory merchandise goes to visual arts family Rosa Nely Wenses! Congratulations and thank you for your family membership with the PTSA and the Visual Arts Guild!

The Pegasus Student 4 Pack includes 4 tickets to ON YOUR FEET! for one student and three friends to attend Student Preview night on Wednesday, September 11 at 7 pm. Congratulations to the following two winners from last week's PTSA meeting!

  • Rosanna Ratliff, Visual Arts, 10th grade
  • Damituris Mack, Music Conservatory, 9th Grade

Each winner will receive an email with instructions on how to claim the prizes.

We're just days away from the first all-school production of the year, and the excitement is in the air! So much is coming together, and everyone involved is truly going the extra mile and putting in the long hours to do their part in making this show successful. You can be a part of it too! Please support ON YOUR FEET! by

We deeply value the involvement and generosity of our PTSA members. Your support, whether through volunteering or donating, is integral to the success of the all-school productions and programs.

  • We now have 16 sponsors for Booker T.'s legendary productions! We're excited to welcome our newest Arts Advocate sponsor, Charles and Andrea Diggs. Thank you for your generous contribution in support of the arts at Booker T.

A big THANK YOU to all who have volunteered to Feed the Kids, especially our Hospitality Chair, Rene Norris, who has coordinated the catering efforts. Thank you also to the following families who have provided an in-kind donation to Feed the Kids: Ewing, Hale, Santiago, Sabater, and Ramos. We also want to thank our following production partners who have discounted the cost of catering.

A big thank you to all who have contributed to the show's success, including the following families donating concession and rehearsal snacks: Biddle, Buss, Courts, Eckian, Hale, Johnson, Orta, Ruff and to all the anonymous donors.

The excitement continues to spread through the DFW community. Principal Garry Williams and I were interviewed in Spanish on the Mexican Regional radio station La Grande 107.5 FM. We discussed the students' preparation for the musical, how the funds raised support production expenses, and contributes to the PTSA's Summer Scholarship program for student enrichment. A special thank you to La Grande's radio DJ Cristina Zuniga!

Tomorrow, September 9, NBC 5 will air a featured story on the musical with an interview of our Director, Mr. Jeffery Miller, and lead actor and junior dance conservatory student Sofia Torres, cast as Gloria Estefan. Tune in to NBC 5's newscast between 4-6:30 pm to catch the story and the behind-the-scenes footage captured during rehearsals.

Last week was a very productive Tech Week! Elementary students from neighboring feeder schools joined the cast to play the young Emilio and Gloria Estefan. The band took their place on the set, and the professional sound design team from Vandelay Sound Exports have tested the mics with the cast and band. Our professional lighting designer, BTW alum Milton Tatum, and his crew have installed more lights and designed all the lighting aspects of the show. They also installed hazers to give it that concert-style vibe when Gloria Estefan goes on a world tour during the show! Mr. Tatum will also use colorful lights to illuminate the student-made acrylic palm trees pictured below. A big thank you to Visual Arts faculty member and lead artist Jessica Bell and the Visual Arts Conservatory students for custom-making the palm trees for the set. It's all coming together, and we can't wait for you to see the show!

Opening Night of ON YOUR FEET! is this Thursday, September 12! A special reception for our sponsors will be held in the MAT lobby from 5:30-6:30 pm. The MAT Lobby opens to the public at 6:30 pm. For the full Booker T. experience, arrive early! Check out the Emilio and Gloria Estefan memorabilia in the display case. Thank you to the Mora and Mojica families for sharing the display items. The MAT Lobby also offers photo ops, concessions, and merchandise.

Also, on Opening Night, Thursday, September 12, make sure to visit the Visual Arts gallery reception before the show for the first Studio Selections of the year. The exhibit is free to the public and will be held in the Hudson Gallery in the legendary building, accessible through the Green Room (in between the MAT and legendary building).
