MESSAGE FROM 2024-25 PTSA PRESIDENT PATRICIA MOJICA

Greetings, Booker T. family!

We are excited to start the countdown for the much anticipated first production of the school year! The opening day of the all-school musical, ON YOUR FEET, is less than two weeks away! Let's sing Gloria Estefan's 1987 hit song "1-2-3-4 Come on baby say you love me, 5-6-7-times, 8-9-10-11 I just want to keep on counting..." There's 11 days, ELEVEN DAYS until opening night! Are you ready to party?! Ticketsplaybill ads and a promotional package is now available! Make sure to use your membership benefits by claiming your $5 promo code on the membership toolkit.

Congratulations to senior Visual Arts student Victoria Ornelas! Her original artwork has been selected by the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Creative Team and approved by Theatrical Rights Worldwide licensing company as the show artwork for BTWHSPVA’s 2024 All School Musical, ON YOUR FEET! The PTSA values the artistry of our scholar artists. Victoria’s artwork and name will be featured on the production Playbill, digital ads, custom merchandise, and posters. A merchandise gift package will be presented to Victoria on the opening day of the show!

So much has happened in this one-week timespan! Our costume crew has been busy sketching, measuring, shopping, sewing, and organizing the costume racks. Our musicians, who are also part of the cast, have been measured for costumes and rehearsing the music diligently each day in preparation for their prominent roles on stage.

Our makeup and hair crew are creating makeup styles and hairstyles from the 80s-90s. The graphic design crew is researching scenes from the musical and the locations where the Estefans lived and toured in order to design scenic graphics to project on the MAT stage. The photographers are taking headshots and candid shots during rehearsals. The stage crew is holding meetings, managing rehearsal schedules, sending reminders, and more. Our creative staff is coordinating the set, providing acting direction, vocal and music lessons, dance choreography, costume and makeup lessons, and much more.

Your PTSA officers and chairs are raising funds to support the production expenses and organizing hospitality for the cast, band, and crew. Our members are signing up to volunteer and making generous donations. I want to welcome our newest All School Production sponsors, Carol and Bill Huckin - Communities Foundation, to the Director level sponsorship! Thank you for being an integral part of supporting our school community!

A special thank you to our production partners Laura and Ken Capps and the Texas Standard: Outfitters of the Texas Gentleman for donating the most beautiful guayaberas for our cast. We are grateful for any form of support, whether it's volunteering your time or donating items. Thank you for supporting the success of the production. The generosity of our Booker T. community never ceases to amaze me!

The excitement about the musical has spread to the DFW community. NBC 5 interviewed our Director, Mr. Miller, and junior student Sofia Torres, cast as Gloria Estefan. Tune in to NBC 5's newscast on September 9 between 4-6:30 pm to catch the story and the behind-the-scenes footage captured during rehearsals. With only a one-week run, tickets are going to sell fast! We hope you'll be part of the magical experience of the all-school musical. Audience participation is encouraged! Don't delay! Get your tickets today!

Congratulations to the newly selected cast of the upcoming student-led and written musical theatre production celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in October. Great job to our student leadership team, which organized and led the auditions. We'll share more about this production at our first PTSA Meeting of the year, to be held in The Commons on Tuesday, September 3rd at 6 p.m. Join us for special door prizes to celebrate our achievement of reaching our membership goal of 1,000+ in record time! We hope to see you there!

Enjoy the Labor Day holiday!
