MESSAGE FROM 2023-24 PTSA PRESIDENT PATRICIA MOJICA

Greetings, Booker T. family!

Thank you to all who were able to join us for this month's PTSA meeting last week. A special thank you to our guest speaker, Nedra P. James, Arts Coordinator at Booker T. After sharing her gratitude for the PTSA members, she announced the Arts + Culture Week activities! This year, AP students will be featured in a "Capstone Talk" in the MAT on Monday, March 4, at 7 p.m. Ms. Townsel, AP Language and Research teacher says this event is similar to a "Ted Talk." Ms. James encouraged everyone to attend to hear students passionately speak about arts and culture. She also announced the activities for the rest of the week as students rotate through several workshops and celebrations on campus, including an Arts market held at Sammon's Park in front of the AT&T Performing Arts just across the street from Booker T. More details and a volunteer sign-up will be released in the coming weeks.

Also, at the meeting, we voted to pass the PTSA's support of the school dance hosted by the Student Council. Since we are starting from a zero budget and time is of the essence, the dance will be held at the school. Principal Williams offered to have the dance for the first time in the MAT! Our beautiful MAT will be glamorized into a night "Under the Stars"–a theme created by the student council. Here's some words of gratitude from the StuCo Officers:

"Thank you so much for making this dance possible!! The Student Council Officers made a plan for decorating, and we are really hoping to transform the MAT and MAT Lobby by using lots of interesting lighting and decor... This dance will be great, and we're very grateful that you are making it possible!!" - StuCo Officers

The PTSA strives to impact the lives of all students in a positive manner. Sometimes, it's hard for students to socialize at Booker T. when the larger focus is on creating art, keeping up their academic studies, and deciding on a successful career path and college. Events like a school dance allow them to unplug and just be teenagers. Thank you to the Executive Board and membership for voting "Yes," to support their desires. This year's students will be able to reflect on their memories at Booker T. and say, "I remember when we had a school dance in the MAT!" Please help us make this school dance memorable for them by signing up to volunteer and/or donate in the article below.

On Tuesday, we hosted a teacher appreciation breakfast Mardi Gras style! Students participating in the Val-o-grams serenaded the faculty with beautiful music. A special thank you to our students and volunteers for hosting another great Teacher Appreciation!

The PTSA is excited to celebrate and support the student-led African American Heritage Festival this week! Making a grand appearance in the festival is this Djembe, a gift from Booker T. alum Chris Rawlins. When you hear it, you will know the show is about to start! You don't want to miss this show! Come early for the pre-show and enjoy art and music. Tickets are now available! See the article below for links, and please sign up to volunteer.

In honor of Black History month we are paying a tribute to the Booker T. Washington Bulldogs by selling hoodies with the 1937 Marching Band logo. A limited inventory will be available for sale in the MAT lobby during the festival. More color options and pre-orders are available online. Click here to order yours today!
