MESSAGE FROM 2023-24 PTSA PRESIDENT PATRICIA MOJICA

Happy Fall, Y'all!

The fall season at Booker T. brings many more opportunities for students to thrive academically and artistically. Throughout October and November, students will take the PSAT, prepare for college showcase week, and perform or display their artwork.

The RJAM, Roots Jazz, and American Music program kicked off this month's performances! Their Premier Ensemble Concert was fantastic! They had seven bands performing an array of jazz music from Latin American Jazz, orchestra, gospel, fusion, contemporary, and more! If you missed the concert, Terence Hobdy, BTWHSPVA RJAM Director, announced that several ensembles will perform at the 'Booker T. LIVE' concert on October 20 at the Annette Strauss Square outdoor stage located at the AT&T Performing Arts Center across the street from Booker T. Many alums will also perform! Tickets are now on sale! Proceeds provide grants and scholarships awarded by the BTW Advisory Board for students to receive private lessons and supplies and/or attend master classes and summer intensives. Keep reading the newsletter for more information.

Booker T.'s annual College Showcase will be held November 15-18! Our guest speaker for the next PTSA meeting is BTWHSPVA Public Relations Specialist and Arts Magnet Coordinator Sharon Cornell, who will share important information on the upcoming College Showcase and the upcoming audition process for prospective Booker T. students. Plus, we'll give a family four-pack of tickets to the 'Booker T. LIVE' concert! All attendees who are members of the PTSA and Guild and have paid their student's class dues will be automatically entered in a drawing! We hope to see you there!

A special thank you to all who generously gave to our beloved custodian Mr. Bell. French teacher Heather Benedetto said she is "so grateful for and amazed by the quick show of support for our dear Mr. Bell by the PTSA! Your generous contributions far exceeded the bare minimum goal, and Mr. Bell will surely be able to obtain reliable transportation." Ms. Benedetto said she saw many donations coming in as notifications were sent to her phone. She said, "I was delightfully overwhelmed and stupified by the generosity of our Booker T. family! What a heart-warming event for all!!!" Upon presenting Mr. Bell with donations, he said "that he is truly, truly, truly, TRULY grateful. He was definitely astonished, speechless," said Ms. Benedetto, "by the care that you have shown with your support and messages! Mr. Bell will be checking out a vehicle this week!" Thank you once again to all who could give and support a member of our Booker T. family.

A special shout out to the LULAC organization as they wrap up the festivities of the Hispanic Heritage Month. Part of their spirit dress week encouraged students to wear their quinceañera dresses to school. What a special moment for these students.
